Best of you

17. "The best of you in Islam are those who are most excellent in character as long as you deeply understand the religion." [Ahmad, Sahîh]

Quotes to remember

13. Ibn Qutaybah said that his disputant said to him, “What is the matter with you?” He replied to him, “I will not dispute with you.” The disputant then said, “Thus you have come to know that I am right.” Ibn Qutaybah responded, “No, but I respect myself more than that.” At this the disputant retracted and said, “And I will not claim a thing that is not my right.”

Salafs sayings

It is reported that Imām Al-Zuhrī – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

Those of our scholars who went before us used to say,”Adherence to the Sunnah is salvation, but knowledge is taken away quickly, so the revival of knowledge means the stability of religion and worldly affairs, and the loss of knowledge means the loss of all that.”

The Person Who Recites Qur'aan in Secret is Like He Who Gives Charity in Secret

Question:

All praise is due to Allaah, I recite the Qur'aan well, but my problem is that whenever I recite aloud without the Qur'aan in front of me, I make mistakes. So do I lose rewards when I read in private or when I read quietly?
Answer:

Reading privately is better, as is confirmed in the Hadith that is recorded by a group of compilers with a Hasan chain of narration from the Prophet sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam, that he said:
"The person who recites the Qur'aan secretly is like he who gives charity secretly." (Abu Dawud no.1333 and At-Tirmithi no.2919)

so just as giving charity secretly is better, so too is the case in reciting the Qur'aan, unless there is some benefit in reading out loud - for example, the Imaam who delivers a sermon or recites out loud. If reading in private is more beneficial for you, it is better, unless you need to recite to others for educational purposes.
