Best of you

49. "The best of you are those who are best to their families." [Tabarâni, Sahîh]

Quotes to remember

23. ‘Ali ibn Zaid mentioned, “A man of the Quraysh spoke harshly to the Caliph `Umar Ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz who remained silent for a long time and then said, “You wish that the devil rouses in me the pride of the Caliphate and I treat you so rudely that you can take revenge tomorrow (in the Afterlife) on me.”

Salafs sayings

Abu ad-Dardaa narrated [Saheeh Muslim, No.6588]: The Messenger of Allaah said: «No believing servant supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), except that the Angels say: "The same be for you too".»
al-Imaam an-Nawawee comments [Riyaadh as-Saaliheen #1494]: This hadeeth makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, "O Allaah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others".

Kissing the Hand and Putting it on the Chest

Question:

As some people greet each other, I notice that they kiss the other persons hand or place them on their chest, seeking, I assume, to increase the mutual love they have for each other. Is this permitted in Islam?
Answer:

This action has no origin in the Islamic Shariah. It is not legislated to kiss the hand or place it on the chest after shaking, rather it is an innovation when the one doing it thinks that he is drawing closer to Allaah Almighty by doing it.
