Best of you

12. "The best of your garments are those which are white; shroud your dead in them and clothe your living with them. The best of that which you apply to your eyelids is antimony causing the eyelashes to grow and sharpening the eyesight." [Ibn Hibbân, Sahîh]

Quotes to remember

10. `Umar (ra) said, “Do not learn knowledge for three things and do not leave it for three things. Do not learn it to dispute over it, to show off with it, or to boast about it. Do not leave seeking it out of shyness, dislike for it, or contending with ignorance in its stead.”

Salafs sayings

Abu ad-Dardaa narrated [Saheeh Muslim, No.6588]: The Messenger of Allaah said: «No believing servant supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), except that the Angels say: "The same be for you too".»
al-Imaam an-Nawawee comments [Riyaadh as-Saaliheen #1494]: This hadeeth makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, "O Allaah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others".

Storing Books and Magazines That Have Pictures in Them

Question:

As a student in a secondary school, I enjoy passing my time by reading, which has prompted me to subscribe to a number of magazines. Some of these are Islamic in content, some are for general news and general information, and some are military magazines. Most of these magazines, though, have pictures of people in them. I store these magazines in a private office. I am aware of the punishment picture-makers will receive and I am also aware that angels don't enter any home in which a dog or a picture is present - these facts I am made aware of by sayings of the Prophet Salallaahu alayhi wasallam. Please clarify this issue for me, in such a way that no doubt is left in my mind.
Answer:

There is nothing wrong with keeping books, newspapers, and magazines - those that are beneficial - even if there are pictures in them. You should, however, wipe out any pictures of women and the faces of men, applying the authentic Hadith in this regard.
